Tema Fred, konflikt og kommunikasjon

I forbindelse med den syvende Nordiske konferansen for retorisk forskning (NKRF7) inviterer Rhetorica Scandinavica interesserte forskere til å sende inn artikler til et eget spesialnummer om konferansens tematikk “Fred, konflikt og kommunikasjon”.

Den retoriske tradisjonen har alltid tematisert kommunikasjon i konflikt, og “retorikk” er i seg selv et omstridt begrep og tema. Den allmenne interessen for retorikk ser ut til å være særlig stor i ufredstider, og rollen retorikk spiller i sosiale, politiske og militære konflikter, er opphav til ulike vurderinger av retorikken. Retorikk er både et kampmiddel og et middel til konfliktløsning. I slike sammenhenger blir det tydelig at heller ikke “fred” er et ukontroversielt begrep. “Fred” kan stå for konfliktfri idyll eller hardt tilkjempet konfliktløsning. Å snakke om fred kan dekke over konflikter, men det også være en måte å artikulere og gjennomarbeide konflikter. Hvorvidt konsensus eller konflikt er det mest grunnleggende i kommunikasjon, er et sentralt spørsmål både empirisk og teoretisk, og peker på viktige sammenhenger mellom retorikk, etikk og politisk teori.

I dette spesialnummeret ønsker vi å publisere empiriske og teoretiske artikler som belyser fred og konflikt fra en retorisk synsvinkel. Artikler basert på papers presentert på NKRF7 er særlig velkomne, men invitasjonen er ikke begrenset til slike bidrag. Manus blir vurdert av redaktørene og av to fagfeller. Alle manus vurderes ut fra tematisk og faglig relevans og om de passer tidsskriftets profil og form.

Call for papers: “Peace, Conflict and Communication”

In cooperation with the 7th Nordic Conference for Rhetorical Research (NKRF7) Rhetorica Scandinavica invites interested researchers to submit articles for a special issue on the conference theme “Peace, Conflict and Communication”.

The rhetorical tradition has always thematized communication in conflict, and “rhetoric” is in itself a contentious concept and topic. Interest in rhetoric appears to be particularly great in times of turmoil, and various assessments of rhetoric have their origins in the role rhetoric plays in social, political and military conflicts. Rhetoric is both a means of fighting and a means of conflict resolution. In such contexts, it becomes clear that “peace” too is a contentious term. “Peace” can refer too conflict-free unity or hard fought compromise.

Talking about peace can mask conflicts, but it can also be a way to articulate and work through conflicts. Whether consensus or conflict is the most fundamental in communication is a central issue, both empirically and theoretically, and points to important connections between rhetoric, ethics and political theory. In this special issue we wish to publish empirical and theoretical articles that deal with questions of peace and conflict from a rhetorical perspective. Articles based on papers presented at NKRF7 are particularly welcome, but the invitation is not limited to such contributions. Articles will be reviewed by the editors and two anonymous peers. The selection of articles will be based on thematic and academic relevance as well as the journal’s general profile and form.

The special issue will be edited by Hans Marius Hansteen and Eirik Vatnøy.
